Laast Friday we started the class by practicing numbers. Students were learning the words after and before. First, each student had to say the number that went after. After 11, the student had to say 12. Before 17, the student had to say 16.

We reviewed all the actions we are learning this month. Some new actions are: play with your friends, take a bath, play an instrument, wash your face, your hands, your hair, do your homework, cook lunch or dinner, take the dog out for a walk.
To learn the vocabulary the flashcards were spread on the table and students had to pick up pairs and name the action.

We listened to the song we started to learn last week and children got together with a partner and acted and sang the song. Students really enjoyed this part.

Later we practiced saying things like: What are you doing? I am washing my face.
They also completed a matching exercise. There were some incomplete sentences on the left side of the paper and some pictures on the right with the word next to them. We read the incomplete sentences first and students decided which picture was the most suitable.

The second part of the worksheet was a listening. Students had to identify the sentences they listened and color a star next to the right picture according to instructions.

Homework

Look at the boy: say which action he is not doing.

he is eating,
he is writing,
he is having a bath,
he is reading a book,
he is drinking milk,
he is running,
he is waking up,

Now draw a picture of the actions he is doing and the teacher forgot to say before.

Hello¡

This month students are learning actions, daily actions: wake up, wash your face, have breakfast, eat, drink, have a shower, brush your teeth, get dressed, study, draw a picture, write, read a book, walk, run, ride a bike.

They are already familiar with many these words, so it is rather easy for them. In our lesson the teacher showed them flashcards with pictures of this actions: first they were repeating the words; then they had to identify the pictures they were told and later, say the actions on the cards they had. They also had to act out some of those actions.

We were also practicing numbers. Some of the students know all the numbers up to 100. Other students are learning them. Each student had to write one number on the board and later they had to join all the numbers identifying the next number.

We listened to a song about daily routines. Here is the link

To review the animals the teacher read a story to them about a very hungry lion and a rabbit. Each student selected the part they liked the best and made a picture of it. Finally, each student reviewed flashcards with the teacher.

Homework
Draw a picture of you sleepting.
Draw a picture of your friend having breakfast.

And here is an exercise to practice the action words. Listen and click. Do the first 3 screens, most of them are words we are learning in class.

Well, that was our last class on the topic of animals.

Happy Birthday Raúl! I hope you had a nice party. We missed you in class.

This time I asked students: What's your address? But they did not know the name of their street, so they couldn't answer the question. I told them, and this is a reminder, that they must find out what's their address: the name of the street and the number. That way they can learn how to say it in English.

We reviewed the names of animals and put them in 5 groups. Each group was a family. Students had to try to complete a family by asking their classmates for the right animals. They had to ask: Have you got...(the cow, the squirrel, etc.)? and the classmate they asked had to answer: Yes, I've got it or No, I haven't. Students got points each time they asked the question or answered
properly, and I must congratulate Elsa because she did a great job.

We learned some things different animals do: fly, swim, run, walk. I noticed most students already knew those words.

Students listened to a recording and had to say if the picture on their sheet was right or wrong. They all did very well. They also had to complete some writing  exercises: finding the correct word for each animal and writing it.

Homework
Here is link to a nice web site where children can practice spelling the names of animals. Children can click on Guess first: then they must click on the name of the animal they think they see. Then they can go to Spell and try to wite the names themselves.
They can also write the name of 2 animals that can swim, 2 animals that can fly, 2 that can run and 2 that can walk.

We have such fine artists in this group. I loved Luna´s and Irene´s pictures of animals.

Here is a link for this week. It´s a little movie about the jungle and the animals that live there. Animal Jungle Movie. It doesn´t matter if children do not understand everything, they just need to get familiar with some of the words, like jungle and forest. They can understand the descriptions of animals.

During our lesson last Friday we reviewed the alphabet once more and students spelled their surname or last name. Some students still have difficulties with this, but we´ll continue practicing.

We reviewed the animals by looking at the picture cards and also read the word cards. Then, we played the Memory Game: students had to match picture card with word card.

We watched the  Animal Jungle Movie and then played a game: students were given descriptions of jungle animals and they had to guess which animals were being described.

Last students completed a worksheet: they had to fill a chart about animals: say how many legs, feet, arms, or tails they had. Decide if the animal is big or small. And say if the animal has skin, scales, feathers or fur.
Examples:
A fish has scales.
A bear has fur.
An ostrich has feathers.
A hippo has skin.

Homework
Find other examples of animals that have scales, fur, feathers or skin.
 Skin

 Feathers

                                                                             Fur
Scales

Hello!

We had a good lesson last Friday. Everybody tried hard to behave and pay attention.
And everybody knew the months already, in the right order. Well done!

After doing a little exercise with numbers, we reviewed the animals cards. After that, students asked the teacher for some of the animals. They said: Can you give me the lamb? or Can you give me the squirrel?
Next, students had to imitate the animals on their cards. And the other ones had to guess which animal they were imitating.
In the second part of the class we saw a video with a song. The song is At the zoo. Here is a link to the video.
Students completed a worksheet. They had to listen to the descriptions of some animals and  match the numbers of the descriptions with the right picture. After that they chose one animal each and described it. They all did a GREAT JOB. They described the animals like this: It's gray and big, it has got four legs, a short tail and big ears.

HOMEWORK
Make a drawing of an animal that: it has got no legs, it is long and green, it has a big mouth with little teeth.

Another one: It is tall. It has got two long legs. It has got a long neck. It's got a beak (pico).

Hello!

NEW TOPIC

Wild animals and other animals that are not so wild. For some reason I seem to choose the same topics you are studying in school. That´s good, you´ll learned them better.

We started the lesson with the usuaol questions:

What day is today?
What´s the date?
What´s the weather like?
What´s the month?
What´s the year?

Most students are very good already at answering those questions and also at asking them.
They also asked each other: What´s your surname?

During the first part of the lesson we were working with flash cards. Students practised the names of animals and said wheather they were pets, farm animals or wild animals.

We played a few games of bingo. Irene was so lucky that she wan the first two games. That´s why she was teacher during the third game and had to take out the animals from a bag ans say their names for the other students.

Later students listened to a recording and joined the dots in a worksheet to make a picture.
They also did some drawings of animals. Next day they´ll have to talk about their pictures and say things like: Picture 1 is a crocodile. A crocodile is a wild animal. Or ask questions like:
What animal have you got on picture 3?

Homework

Make a picture of a wild animal: it is green, it has got a big mouth, it´s got for small legs, it is long.
And a picture of a pet, the pet you would like to have. A dog, a cat, a bird, a fish, a rabbit?

In our class last Friday we reviewed the months. Students had to say the next month and then, the month before.
We also did series of numbers. The teacher said for example: 5, 6, 7, what's the next number?, students had to continue the series saying one number each.. Sometimes we went backwards, like: 16, 15, and so on.

3 students brought their homework: Alvaro, Irene and Luna and they told us about it. WELL DONE!

It was our last lesson on the Topic Clothes. We played a vocabulary game: Around the World. In this game, students have to be fastest to say a word. Everybody got to stand up because they had been the fastest, but it was Irene who went Around the World.
Students were shown the pictures of the Star family members and their friends and each one of them described one of them on this way, for example: Stella is wearing a green skirt, a white T-shirt and red shoes.

We finished a worksheet we had started in another lesson. Students had to listen to a recording and match various character with their clothes and other belongings. They were sentences like: Kim has got a purple skirt and a gray mouse.

They learned 2 more commands: Put on and Take off. One student came up to the front and the other ones gave him instructions: Put on a coat, put on a scarf, put on a hat, put on the gloves. Take off the hat, take off the gloves, take off ...

Last students were dressing their drawings of a boy and a girl with the clothes they had made last week with color papers, according to the teacher's instructions: The boy takes off his orange trousers and puts on his jeans.

Here is a link to an exercise. This way children can get used to the spelling of the words they know. This is their homework. I'll ask them about it.

domingo, 26 de enero de 2014

Here is a link to a video the kids enjoyed very much. At the same time they can learn the names of clothes.

We started our last lesson practicing numbers: from 1 to 32 ( that was the last number I asked them to write, but they know more). They all did a very good job.

We reviewed the names of different clothes items and then students answered the questions:

What do you wear on your feet?
What do you wear on your head?
What do you wear on your neck?
What do you wear on your on your body?
What do you wear on your on your hands?
What do you wear on your on your legs?

They also answered this type of question:

What's Stella wearing? She is wearing a red T-shirt and green skirt.
What's Simon wearing? He is wearing a blue jacket and and gray trousers.

Students cut our clothes for a boy and a girl. Next day they will be learning to follow the instructions: put on and take off.
Homework: draw a 6 year old child. The child is wearing a blue coat, a yellow and white scarf, red gloves, brown trousers and green boots.

Hello again!
What are you wearing today?

Last Friday students were getting familiar with the spelling of clothes. We played a game where they had to match a picture with its word. .
Some students have special difficulty to tell between scarf

and skirt

Students worked on a worksheet in which they had to count all the clothes and answered the questions:
How many shirts are there in the picture?
How many socks are there in the picture?
How many skirts are there in the picture?
Most students answered: 4 shirts or 7 skirts. Only Irene was able to answer: There are 4 shirts in the picture. I hope next day everybody will do it.

Homework: children draw a table and 5 shoes on the table.
Children draw a bed and 3 jackets on the bed.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

We have a new student this term. Her name is Elsa. So now there are 3 boys and 3 girls in the group.

We have started the year studying clothes: T-shirt-s, trouser-s, skirt-s, shoes, socks, dress-es, coat-s, jacket-s, jeans, boots, shirt-s, scarf, belt, sweater-s, cap-s, hat-hats.

First, clothes flashcards were spread on the table and  students had to identify them.

Students had to color the clothes  of a few people: Stella, Stella´s parents, and Stella´s friends Meera and Lenny. Children knew the different characters already. The teacher said, for instance: Stella is wearing a yellow T-shirt, a white skirt and yellow shoes. When they finished, the teacher said: I am wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. Who am I? Students answered: Mr. Star or Dad. Some students did the same thing. This is still difficult for them, though, we'll need to practice more next week.

Finally children were listening and learning a chant about clothes. And we also played a game where students had to dress a bear following some instructions.

For homework here is a link to a cute Japanese video the children must watch to practice. We'll be looking at it next Friday and I hope they can sing along with the video.
